Role Description:
As an Assortment & Display Planner you will be managing a group or category of products for a retailer / wholesaler / customer base, in both, online and offline channels.
Your primary focus in the role is to provide your target market with a product offer (range management) that consumers desire and to service this offer in a manner which maximizes sales and profitability.
To excel you will have extensive experience in understanding market and consumer needs and translating this insight into Category Strategy and an actionable Category Plan.
You will worl closely with the Category Buyer to define the pricing and overall promotion of a product category to maximize consumer appeal. Developing mutually beneficial relationships with vendors.
The role requires a strong commercial mind set with a highly developed comprehension of all the sales, marketing, merchandising and operational levers which can impact the overall P&L of their category.
As such the Assortment & Display Planner role requires proven expertise in communication, influencing and negotiation. The ability to gain ‘buy in’ for the Category direction and building relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders is critical to success in the role.
Key Accountabilities:
· Creation of a long term Category strategy with the Category Director.
· Definition and delivery of Category plans that support agreed corporate financial targets.
· Align with store design and construction.
· Executing trading strategies based on customer insight that deliver the required sales and profitability
· Overseeing the impact of marketing strategies to ensure that pricing and promotional actions are delivered.
· Product range management and development - identifying gaps, reviewing the overall range listings, liaising with key vendors on product development opportunities.
· Develop exit strategies for ineffective, discontinued products.
· Increase sales and profit through the development of product assortments which meet consumer needs.
· Participate, together with the Category Buyer, in developing mutually beneficial relationships with vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of service.
· Working with category merchandising to ensure sales displays are easy to shop and highlight category assets.
· Working with the Macro Space team to ensure category space made available supports delivery of the category plan and financial targets and that the positioning of the category in the store flow meets consumer expectations.
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
· 3+ years of experience within a Category Management role in an equivalent retailer/wholesaler
· Clear evidence of career progression
· Proven examples of providing commercial growth to categories within your responsibility
· Full lifecycle experience of developing a Category strategy, defining category tactics and successfully implementing
· Experience of successfully leading and developing cross functional teams
· Formal certification from an industry body (e.g. CMA, Nielsen, JDA) would be an advantage
· Able to demonstrate experience with office and category management systems that would benefit the role
· Mandatory: Fluent in English and Spanish (the language to report work is English)
