HP Barcelona site is home of one of the R&D Labs for 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing, serving both HP 3D Multi Jet Fusion and HP Metal Jet businesses.
The selected candidate will be leading a 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing R&D ME team based in Barcelona, in close collaboration with other teams across the broader 3DP businesses. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a team of talented mechanical engineering professionals as we define and invent the future of 3D printing technology working within HP and external partners worldwide.
This 3DP R&D ME Project Manager position will be responsible for successful delivery of the following 3D’s Mechanical assets: structure and layout of the printer, printing chamber and conditioning (including inerting), printing engine, printhead cooling and servicing, agent delivery system and ID. The scope of the delivery includes both plastic materials and metals.
3Dp business requires people managers who have strong growth mindset and are able to lead teams within changing environments. This PM has to support upcoming 3Dp products development, maximizing commonalities across programs and collaboration with the Vancouver product delivery team and the technology team in Corvallis / San Diego. S/He has to demonstrate strong cross organization collaboration skills and being able to ‘Imagine the Future’ and accordingly shape the team. 3D printing customer knowledge is needed, understanding how to drive customer’s value proposition balancing core vs non-core ME Powder assets. Knowledge and/or experience in lean developments is another key skill.
Specific Responsibilities
People management
- Act as HP’s role model for leadership principles and practices.
- Manage a team of highly qualified Mechanical Engineers and outsourced services.
- Support all HR processes with strong focus on gathering and grow top talent.
- Balance ME team efficiency based on core vs non-core activities.
- Mentor individuals to grow.
Program dynamics and partnering
- Work in very close partnership with program managers, program integrators and chief engineers.
- Active participation in the Section Staff to influence and contribute in the continuous improvement of the department strategies, processes and performance.
- Identify major bottlenecks, discuss acceptable trade-offs and propose solutions satisfying customers’ needs.
- R&D team’s budget planning, execution and deviations management.
3D Printing Business
- Understand 3D printing business model, financials, customers and market trends.
- 3D printing development model knowledge.
- Assess new product proposals to estimate feasibility, schedule and resources needed.
- Define, propose and lead development ME outsourcing strategies.
- Align ME strategy with other PMs and key stakeholders
Education, skills and experience
Required
- Bachelor's (undergraduate), Master's (graduate) or Ph.D (post-graduate). Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Typically 5 or more years of experience in NPD functions with proven understanding of processes, roles and objectives across with demonstrated multi-disciplinary team leadership.
- Strong leadership and people development skills
- Success in collaboration with partners and/or organizations
- Motivation, proactivity and game changer attitude
Desired
- Previous people management / team leader role experience
- Knowledge in 3D solutions’ customers, product development and additive manufacturing state of the art
- Demonstrated effectiveness in process improvements

- Very good understanding of product qualifying and DFM processes
- Ability to mentor and influence engineering teams to keep growing competences and job satisfaction.
